Return of the Figure II


This figure study was done with a gestural ink-wash, followed by a mix of hard-pressed charcoal pencils and white-stick charcoal on a toned piece of paper. Working with a toned-surface allows the artist to work with darks and lights at the same time, which helps “pop” the drawing off the page quite nicely.

This drawing was done very quickly. Not only was I trying to practice drawing the female figure, I was also attempting to capture the moment before it was gone.
